PLEASANTON ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES NAMES FINALIST FOR SUPERINTENDENT

The Pleasanton Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees, at its Feb. 12, 2026 meeting, named Dr. John Prezas of Corpus Christi ISD as the lone finalist for superintendent. By law, the Board must wait 21 days before voting to hire Dr. Prezas as the new superintendent for Pleasanton ISD. Dr. Prezas is slated to replace outgoing Superintendent Cheryl Barron.

The Board followed a comprehensive process in selecting the finalist. In November, the Board hired Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to assist with the search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups on Dec. 17, 2025, to gather input on desired leadership qualities for the next superintendent. The leadership profile developed from these meetings was used by the Board and consultants to evaluate applicants.

The Board selected six applicants for initial interviews, and three applicants were invited to participate in a second round of interviews. After the second round was completed, members of the Board visited Corpus Christi ISD and reported their findings.

The Board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Dr. Prezas on March 16, 2026. Dr. Prezas has served as Assistant Superintendent in Corpus Christi ISD since 2020.
