Pleasanton ISD Dating Violence Policy

Pleasanton ISD is committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment free from harassment and abuse. Dating violence is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action in accordance with district policies and state law.

What is Dating Violence?

Dating violence includes physical, sexual, verbal, or emotional abuse used to harm, intimidate, or control someone in a current or past dating relationship. It is considered harassment when it disrupts a student’s education or creates a hostile environment.

Examples May Include, but not limited to:

  • Physical or sexual assault

  • Verbal abuse or threats

  • Property destruction

  • Stalking or monitoring

  • Isolation from friends and family

  • Threats of suicide or violence

Reporting & Response

Students are encouraged to report incidents to trusted staff, administrators, or through the anonymous reporting system. All reports will be investigated promptly, and supportive measures such as counseling or schedule changes may be provided. Retaliation against reporters is strictly prohibited.

Prevention & Education

The district provides age-appropriate education on:

  • Healthy relationships

  • Warning signs of abuse

  • Conflict resolution

  • How to seek help

Accountability

Administrators track and review incidents annually to guide prevention efforts. Goals related to student safety and awareness are included in the District Improvement Plan.

Staff Training & Communication

All staff receive annual training on recognizing and responding to dating violence. This policy is posted on the district website and included in official planning documents.

  • Texas Education Code §37.0831

  • Board Policies FFH (LEGAL) and FFH (LOCAL)

  • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
