Identification

To be considered for the Pleasanton ISD Gifted & Talented (GT) Program, students must complete a screening process in which required information is gathered. Data is collected from a variety of sources and recorded on a matrix by the Campus Curriculum & Instructional Specialist. This matrix is then used to help guide final decisions about student selection and placement in the GT Program.

The matrix may include, but is not limited to, the following:

·         Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)

·         Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)

·         Teacher/Parent Questionnaires

·         STAAR/EOC results

·         NWEA MAP scores

·         Student grades

·         Student products or portfolios

Placement:

The final selection of students for the Pleasanton ISD Gifted & Talented Program is determined by a selection committee made up of at least three district or campus educators who have been trained in the nature and needs of gifted learners.

Transfer Students:

When a student previously identified as gifted in another public school district transfers to Pleasanton ISD, the selection committee will review the student’s records to decide if placement in the district’s Gifted & Talented Program is appropriate. This decision will be made within 30 days of the student’s enrollment.
