Our Junior High 7th Grade Science Team, Mr. Trevino, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Padilla, recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in a McDonald Observatory Teacher Professional Development Workshop titled “Solar System and Beyond!” Held at the world-renowned McDonald Observatory near Fort Davis, Texas, this immersive experience took place over a weekend in January and focused on expanding educators’ knowledge of space science through hands-on learning, expert instruction, and behind-the-scenes access to the observatory.
During the workshop, the team engaged in rich learning experiences that deepened their understanding of astronomy while exploring classroom ready activities they can bring directly back to their students. From instructional materials to tours and collaborative learning, the experience was designed to inspire both teachers and students alike.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Trevino shared, “We were able to deepen our knowledge on space and bring home great activities for our students. Our minds are racing with the ideas we have for our students this year and next. Overall, it was an amazing experience and my favorite workshop I have ever attended.” He also noted the team’s excitement about implementing these ideas and their hope to provide students with future opportunities to learn from experts at the observatory.
We are incredibly proud of Mr. Trevino, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Padilla for their commitment to professional growth and for continually seeking ways to enrich learning for our students. Their passion for science and dedication to excellence truly helps our students reach for the stars... both inside and outside the classroom!
