Dear Parents and School Community,

Pleasanton ISD is currently reviewing Special Education Programming for all of our students. At the August 8th board meeting, our staff shared important information and data about Special Education in PISD.  At this time, we are considering creating an internal Special Education Department to serve 500+ PISD students, and this potential change may impact our partnership with the Atascosa McMullen Cooperative.

To allow for public input and to promote transparency regarding any decisions made to Special Education Programming, you are invited to the following PISD Board meetings that will guide our decision-making process.

·         September 12th: Mrs. Lynse Pawelek, Executive Director of Atascosa McMullen COOP, will present information to the PISD Board of Trustees regarding Special Education Services. The board meeting will take place at 6:30 pm in the high school cafeteria.

·         October 9th: A public hearing regarding PISD Special Education Services will be held at 6:30 pm in the high school cafeteria.  PISD will present preliminary plans on what a PISD Special Education Department would look like and allow time for parents, staff, and community members to come, ask questions and give feedback on special education services.

·         October 10th: The PISD Board of Trustees will vote on whether or not to renew the contract with the Atascosa McMullen COOP for Special Education Services.

If you are unable to attend one of these meetings or do not want to speak, you may provide feedback at the following link: Community Suggestion Box.

PISD and the Board of Trustees welcomes your input and invites you to attend these meetings.  You can always contact Pleasanton ISD at (830) 569-1241 if you have any questions.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Barron, Superintendent
