Types of media and permissible amounts.

  1. Motion media:
    1. Up to 10 percent of the total or three minutes, which ever is less.
  1. Text material:
    1. Up to 10 percent of the total or 1,000 works, whichever is less.
    2. An entire poem of less than 250 words may be used, but no more than three poem by one poet or five poems by different authors in an anthology. For poems exceeding 250 words, 250 words should be used but no more than three excerpts from on poet or five excerpts from different poets in the same work.
  1. Music, lyrics form and music video:
    1. Up to 10 percent of the work abut no more than 30 seconds of music or lyrics from an individual musical works.
  1. Illustrations or photographs:
    1. No more than five images form one artist or photographer.
    2. No more than 10 percent or 15 images, whichever is less, from a collection.
  1. Numerical data set:
    1. Up to 10 percent of 2,500 field or cell entries, whichever is less, from a copyrighted database
  1. Copying of a multimedia project:
    1. No more than two copies may be made of a project.

When Should You Get Permission?

  1. When you intend to use the project for commercial or non-educational purposes.
  2. When you intend to duplicate the project beyond the two copies allowed by the guidelines.
  3. When you plan distribute the project beyond the scope of the guidelines.
